The Hawkeye provides all-weather airborne early warning and command and control functions for the carrier battle
group. Additional missions include surface surveillance coordination, strike and interceptor control, search and rescue guidance
and communications relay. An integral component of the carrier air wing, the E-2C uses computerized sensors to provide early
warning, threat analyses and control of counteraction against air and surface targets.
See AWACS.
The failed Iran hostage rescue mission led by Colonel Charlie Beckwith. EAGLE CLAW failed for several
reasons. We should remember that 5 Air Force personnel and 3 Marines lost their lives. In my opinion, EAGLE CLAW was
the wrong mission for the wrong time. I believe President Carter did not have the will to employ appropriate American force
(which was available: 4 carrier battle groups and 1 Marine division) in the face naked aggression.
This is a fictional operation designed to decapitate the Iranian leadership and timed to coincide with
EAGLE CLAW.
PLAN fleet tasked with Taiwan Strait and East China Sea.
This is the NSA’s global espionage system. The most likely partners in this venture are Great Britain and
Australia. ECHELON allegedly can capture every secured or unsecured electronic transmission above ground. In Clear and
Present Danger the bad guys were detected because they relied on their cell phones. The technology Tom Clancy referred to
is similar to ECHELON.
On April 16, 1986, strike aircraft from America and Coral Sea battle groups, and F-111
fighter-bombers based in England attacked Libya. President Ronald Reagan order the strike in response to several incidents
involving the Sixth Fleet and the right of passage through the Gulf of Sidra, and the bombing at a German Discotheque that
injured 200 people, including 63 American soldiers. There were fatalities, including 1 American soldier. This attack beat
Gaddafi back into the sand pile he calls home, and lest we forget, the French once again showed their contempt for American
justice by refusing over-flight for the F-111s based in England.

This is the venerable magazine fed, metal cartridge British rifle. These things are still around—a testament to their
craftsmanship.
Dhekelia Garrison is situated within the Eastern Sovereign Base Area (ESBA), one of two British Sovereign Base
Areas in Cyprus, enshrined in the Treaty of Establishment between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Cyprus in 1960.
Dhekelia itself is on the Northern shore of the wide sweeping Larnaca Bay and is situated some 15 km North East of the
important coastal town of Larnaca and 20 km West of Ayia Napa, the premier tourist resort for the club music scene in the
Eastern Mediterranean. Within the Eastern Sovereign Base Area there are two British Military sites at Ayios Nikolaos and
Dhekelia, the latter being known as a “cantonment”. It consists of some 7 sq km and is home to the Headquarters of the
Eastern Sovereign Base Area, a Resident Infantry Battalion, an Engineer Squadron, a Helicopter Flight and various Logistic
Units, as well as UK based civilians and dependents, making a total British population of just over 2,000 people.
A stand-off missile designed to attack high value naval targets. This is the missile that nailed the HMS Sheffield
during the Falklands War, and the missile that hit the USS Stark in the Gulf.
