-J-

J-7 –
This is the Chinese version of the venerable MiG-21. It is primarily created for export, and China currently maintains a fleet of 500 aircraft.

J-8 –
This is another Chinese clone of the MiG-21. This is basically an obsolete airframe that the Chinese continue to improve.

JDAM -
The Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) is a guidance kit that converts existing unguided bombs into precision-guided "smart" munitions. The tail section contains an inertial navigational system (INS) and a global positioning system (GPS). JDAM improves the accuracy of unguided bombs in any weather condition. On a personal note: I know some of the people manufacturing JDAM. After 9-11, they told me everything in the American inventory was being retrofitted—Good Hunting!

JDSRF –

Joint Defense Space Research Facility –
The JDSRF is one of the most secret installations in the world. The CIA and the NRO jointly run it. The JDSRF is located at Pine Gap, Australia (about dead center). Publicly it provides a down link station for the constellation of DSP and SBIRS satellites.

JSOW –
The Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) is a key program that will replace five types of the older air-to-ground weapons currently in the naval inventory. It is a joint Navy-Air Force weapon development program, with the Navy as the lead service. It will provide a family of precision-guided weapons that will allow naval aircraft to attack targets at increased stand-off distances, greatly increasing aircraft survivability. JSOW will be usable in adverse weather conditions and will give aircrews the ability to attack multiple targets in a single sortie. The JSOW family uses a common weapon body for all variants. The AGM-154A variant carries BLU-97 combined-effect bomblets for use against area targets. To provide anti-armor capability, a follow-on version will carry a BLU-108 sub-munitions payload derived from the Sensor Fused Weapon (SFW). A third variant is being developed for a unitary warhead to provide blast-fragmentation capability.

JSTARS –
The Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) is a long range, air-to-ground system designed to locate, identify and vector friend forces for combat conditions. JSTARS is basically AWACS applied to ground targets, and it proved itself during the Gulf War. It operates as constellation of an airborne E-8 (military body for Boeing 707) command platform interfaced with ground reporting stations.

JUST CAUSE –
The American invasion of Panama occurred December 20, 1989. United States armed forces applied overwhelming force to effect the removal of Manuel Noriega and the establishment of a friendly democratic government. JUST CAUSE came about after numerous provocations and difficulties between the United States and Panama. Noriega did not take the hint to leave town and had to be forcible evicted.
