KA-29 –
KAL 007 –
Katyusha –
KGB -
Kfir –
Combat/transport helicopter designed to provide for amphibious assault and the delivery of precision-guided
munitions. NATO designation: HELIX-B.
On September 1, 1983, Soviet Forces shot down Korean Airlines flight 007 when it over-flew Sakalin Islands Air
Defense Base on the Kamchatka Peninsula. Soviet/American relations went into the deep freeze as the death toll reached 269
people, including an American Congressman. The Soviets claimed they were defending themselves against an offensive 747 (go
figure).
See BM-21
Komitet Gosudarstvennoi Bezopasnosti (KGB - Committee for State Security) was the Soviet Unions intelligence
service for the bulk of the Cold War.
The F-21 Kfir is based on the French Mirage 5 fighter. The Israelis designed it after the French (there they go again)
reneged on an arms deal to sell Mirage 5. Evidently, the early engines were not up to the task, because the Kfir had a tendency
to stall when firing a missile.
