FIREWALL
Many would like to say that the War on Terror started on September 11, 2001. I would suggest the 9-11 attack represented a
further escalation by radical Islamic fundamentalists in a war that started more than 2 decades earlier. My start date for the war
is November 4, 1979—the day sovereign American territory was overrun in Tehran. That’s when Firewall starts.
Anyone who has read my other books will recognize some of the characters; meet new ones and get to know a whole bunch of
really bad people. Firewall can best be described as a historical thriller, covering the time period from 1979 – 1989. History is
a funny thing, and the history as recent as 1979 already has several interpretations. The history of Iran/Contra is hardly
predictable or tame. Even if you think you know the story, you’ll probably look at it differently once you read Firewall.
Finally, one of the reasons I have held Firewall back from publication has been the need to get far enough into the next book:
Scorched Earth and make sure everything connects in the series. That said, here’s a little taste of Firewall.
“Student radicals” overrun the American Embassy in Tehran and America plunges into 444-day nightmare.
The Chinese Ministry of State Security hatches a 20-year plot to co-opt the American Presidency and position itself to become
the dominant power in the 21st century.
A sleepy airport in western Arkansas becomes the hub to a drugs-for-arms covert operation to supply the Contra rebels
fighting the communist threat in Nicaragua.
Terrorist cells sponsored by Syria, Iran and Iraq bomb the Beirut Embassy twice, the Marine Battalion HQ and abduct western
hostages.
In a struggle of wills between the Iranian Mullahs and an American President, a secret war rages from isolated Iranian villages
to Beirut’s green line to the cocaine soaked streets in Panama.
The task falls to spymaster Louis Edwards and his dwindling cadre of operatives. They step across all legal boundaries only to
be caught in a winner-take-all / take-no-prisoners free fire zone as Iran/Contra explodes across the headlines.
