Man of the People
John Kerry is the presumptive democratic nominee for president. For several months, the democratic contenders have used George Bush as a punching bag. They seem almost gleeful when flat economic numbers are reported or bombs kill people in Iraq. As the dust settles, Senator John Kerry strides out onto the national stage. Just so we understand one another, this is not going to be a favorable Kerry article.
John Kerry wants us to think that he is one of us. Hard to fathom when you consider that he sold his Italian mansion to George Clooney in a deal brokered by Brad Pitt. Not that I object to Italian mansions or even care that he sold it off for campaign cash, but that seems a long way from middle income America, mortgage payments, college tuition, grocery bills and taxes.
When Kerry started running low on campaign funds, he rushed out and mortgaged his Renoir paintings. I’m sure that’s the first thing most you decide to do to raise a little extra cash, although, I’m not sure my Terry Redlin print is going to fetch the same Cha-Ching that Kerry’s Renoir masterpieces did.
Last fall on Face the Nation, John Kerry told everyone that it would be irresponsible to vote $87 billion expenditure for American troops in Iraq. Back then he wanted to appear ponderous (some might even say dull and boring), but Howard Dean was pulling away from the pack with his anti-war rhetoric. Kerry then voted for an early version of the bill, before voting against final passage. In other words, he cast an irresponsible vote (his words, not mine) when it came to supporting soldiers in Iraq. A great many of these troops are reservists who have taken a leave of absence from their jobs to serve their country.
Next we have John Kerry the soldier. He earned three Purple Hearts in four months. Several veterans have asked openly how it is even possible to be wounded grievously enough to warrant a Purple Heart and return to theater fast enough so you could get shot again. For me the math doesn’t work, but I wasn’t there so I don’t know.
What I do know is that he testified in 1971 that atrocities occurred in Vietnam and that they were common place. If that were the case, then why didn’t John Kerry report these atrocities to his chain of command? According to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, he was duty bound to do just that. Instead, he joined the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) and participated in the Winter Soldier hearings. A group also supported by Jane Fonda.
The Winter Soldier testimony before congress was recorded and played over and over to American POWs. By their accounts, this was used to break morale. Of course, John Kerry used his moment in the sun to spring board a run for congress.
These days Kerry claims to have resigned from VVAW before they openly discussed a plan to assassinate members of congress who supported the Vietnam War. However, to date no record of his letter of resignation has been produced and once again we are left with that pit-of-your-stomach question: Why didn’t he report this to the FBI? After all if he was so concerned about atrocities in Vietnam, then wasn’t he equally concerned about assassination in this country?
Senator Flip-Flop (a moniker destined to stick) enjoyed the anonymous endorsement of foreign leaders, but when pressed to tell us who they were, he balked. Are we talking about the French and the Germans? Both countries were prominently represented in Saddam’s oil voucher program. Maybe he received tacit endorsements from Yaasir Arafat or North Korea’s Dear Leader Kim Jong-il.
But that all came to a halt when Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad openly endorsed him. Last year Mahathir called on fellow Muslim leaders to achieve “Final victory over the Jews who rule the world by proxy.” All of a sudden, the Kerry campaign no longer wanted to discuss foreign leaders and their endorsements. I don’t know about you, but we don’t need a president aligned with people like this. People like Mahathir are TRYING TO KILL US!
After wrapping up the nomination, Kerry took to the Sun Valley slopes and ran into a Secret Service agent. He blamed the man for causing his fall and then called him an SOB. Now I might not be the deepest thinker in the world, but do you really think it is a good idea insult somebody who is supposed to catch a bullet aimed at you?
I think we’ve all met people like Senator Flip-Flop, (you know the slimy used car salesmen, but that’s being unkind to slimy used car salesmen). John Kerry is hardly a man of the people. His leftist, anti-war agenda is the wrong message for our time. The Spanish electoral reaction to the March 11, Madrid bombings is not something we should emulate. Senator Flip-Flop strikes me as a Neville Chamberlain appeaser who tried to strike a deal with Hitler. Those deals never work.
What John Kerry doesn’t seem to understand is that we are engaged in a war. He talks eloquently about international law, justice and the rule of law. Where was the rule of law on September 11th? I will say it again, we are engaged in a struggle with Islamic Fascists to the death. We need a war leader who will unashamedly hunt down, engage and destroy our enemies before they can do the same to us.
John Kerry is the wrong man for our times, and probably, the wrong man for any time.
[Editor’s Note: The reason many of us on the right despise Jane Fonda comes from the fact that she traveled to Hanoi, visited American POWs and sat in an anti-aircraft gun pretending to shoot down American planes. She will forever be known as Hanoi Jane.]
