This was a rather interesting note, and it goes to show that I must have done a credible job of describing the Roselle school. As to Brittany’s question about this being fiction—well, I’ll never quite say where the line between fact and fiction lies.
Feel free to write and you too can end up in the next newsletter.
Hi,
I was reading chapter 2 in your book {editor’s note: POINT OF HONOR}, and you made a reference to a Walgreens. Harper was a 4th degree black belt, and I was wondering if the setting had to do with the karate school National Karate, I am a black belt myself, and that's my school. I noticed you live in St. Paul, which is where NK originally started. Maybe you know Dean or Cris. This was fiction right? Since I never knew of a 4th degree black belt with the last name Harper, thanks.

Brittany,
You are asking about the Roselle School, and yes, I am describing that school in POINT OF HONOR and again in REAP THE WHIRLWIND.
I know Cris very well. He was my first instructor at the Minnetonka school, which is now the Hopkins School. Feel free to ask him about me. He's absolutely the best instructor I ever had. One of the last things he did before he left for Chicago was promote me to red belt. Currently, I'm a third degree black belt.
I must have done something right, because you recognized the setting. As to the book, I try to blend fact and fiction to the point where you end up asking is this just a story or is something else going on here?
Is there really a shadowy spymaster named Louis Edwards and a Special Forces officer called Harper? I'll never tell. I might have changed the names to protect the guilty! :-)
BTW: There are a couple of photos of me sparring at the bottom of my bio page:

Thanks so much for taking the time to write.
