America’s Choice

Next month the American electorate will go to the polls and make a historic choice. Every presidential election deals with the future and the vision for the country, but some elections stand taller than others. In 1980, we voted for a radical change to the politics of defeatism and appeasement. The result was Ronald Reagan and ultimately the end of the Soviet Union. The Reagan legacy in terms of world affairs stands as a bright marker akin to FDR and Lincoln.

This year is another such election. The choice is between two visions: Cut and Run or Finish the Job. Forget about social security, national health care, the economy, gay marriage and abortion. The social and domestic agendas must take a back seat to the war that some are calling World War IV (World War III being the forty year struggle also known as the Cold War).

The Cut and Run crowd’s standard bearer is John Kerry and John Edwards. John Kerry has been compared to Lurch of Addams Family fame. Personally, I think this highly prejudicial to Lurch.

The Cut and Run crowd would pull troops out of Iraq and abandon the fledgling democracy to the butchers—the monsters, who force people to beg for their lives, play pig noises in the back ground while they use chain saws to behead their victims. These are the savages, who detonate car bombs, killing women and children.

They would usher in a future that accepts terrorism as part of everyday affairs. They would discard the sacrifices made in Afghanistan and Iraq and other less known places. They would toss away the coalition that includes Norway, Poland, Italy and others. They would provide a sanctuary for the bin Ladens, the Mullah Omars and others.

The stage would be set for another September 11th style attack.

The Cut and Run crowd refuses to accept the premise that there are evil, horrible people in this world. Even though, the 20th century is replete with examples such as Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, and others.

Our enemies will not remain in the Middle East. They seek world domination and to do that they must destroy first Europe and then America. Since two of the major European powers (France and Germany) seem disinterested in protecting themselves, the destruction of America would accomplish the goal.

The Finish the Job crowd standard bearer is George Bush and Dick Cheney. They have a single goal: Victory. There is no other outcome that I will accept for my children and future grand children.

America stood against Hitler, then Stalin and prevailed. American military might brought about the end of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan. American force of arms and perseverance sent the Soviet Union to the ash heap of history and freed Eastern Europe. American soldiers fought and died to liberate Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq.

We choose to fight the terrorists on their ground and away from American soil. This requires that we chase them down to the rocks they hide under and the holes they crawl into. We do not want this fight on our soil.

Most likely these same troops will be called upon to free Iran, Syria and possibly North Korea. There can be no quarter given these evil monsters (and I use the world evil, because their actions are the very manifestation of hell itself).

America did not ask for this war, but America must finish the job.

That is the choice this country faces. As for me and my house, we will fight.
