Anna did not really like my thoughts about Kerry. Her missive is reprinted as I received it in FULL CAPS. However, I am a Bush supporter by default. The Democrats continue to repel me with their cultural bankruptcy, tax-everything-in-sight and gun-grabbing mentality.

I READ YOUR ARTICLE AND I SEE THAT YOU ARE A BUSH SUPPORTER. I HAVE JUST A FEW THINGS TO SAY TO YOU. FIRST I HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY WITH YOUR CHOICE AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE HAPPY WITH IT. BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT I THINK THAT BEFORE THE NEXT FOUR YEARS ARE UP YOU WILL WISH THAT YOU HAD NEVER HEARD OF GEORGE W. BUSH AND DICK CHENEY. I HEARD A LOT ABOUT BUSH AND CHENEY BEING ELECTED BECAUSE OF MORAL VALUES. WELL I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I DON'T WANT ANY PART OF THEIR MORAL VALUES. WHEN I WAS GROWING UP, MY DADDY USED TO TELL US THAT THERE WOULD COME A DAY WHEN THE PRESIDENT WOULD CALL YOU UP AND TELL YOU WHAT YOU COULD EAT FOR BREAKFAST. WELL BACK THEN I THOUGHT DADDY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT BECAUSE SUCH A THING COULD NEVER HAPPEN IN AMERICA. BUT NOW I AM NOT SO SURE. I AM 60 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANOTHER PRESIDENT CALL THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY UNPATRIOTIC IF THEY DISAGREED WITH HIM LIKE THIS ONE HAS. THANK YOU . ANNA

On a more positive note, Ross wrote:

Hello, Mr. De Bono, I e-mailed you once a while ago when I first discovered your books and I have since read each of them twice. I'd consider "Reap the Whirlwind" to be your best. The original premise was really original and the last quarter of the book when the standoff with China begins and the mission into Panama is certainly your most suspenseful piece of writing so far. While your books will invariably be compared to those of Clancy, I find them much closer to Forsyth in how you blend your stories and characters with real events and real people, something few authors are able to do in a believable, effective way. Adding to the appeal of your books for me is how they include everything from spies to naval combat to fighters, where as most authors will generally stay within one of those areas. It also helps that your characters actually seem like real people and have their own personalities, something lacking with most books of this kind. I have two questions, if you do not mind: It's been over a year, I believe, since "Firewall" came out. Is there any word on the next book(s)? Do you have any plans on tackling the situation with North Korea in a future book? Although Kim Jong-Il probably wouldn't attack first and his military is in poor shape, there are still interesting scenarios that can be played out with that. Thanks, and good luck with the books. Ross Sidor

Hi Ross, I am bowled over that you've read everything twice! That's quite a compliment. As to new books, well I have three in search of a publisher, and I working on another one as well. It seems the publishing world is a bit timid about anything dealing with the War on Terror, Weapons of Mass Destruction or anything that might hit a little too close to home. My agent told me that my last manuscript (Unit 999) was excellent, but he did not know if he could sell it to anyone. I found your comments about RTW interesting. I always thought that for those books, the end of RTW was one of the best things I ever put together. Oddly enough, that book has had the least commercial success. If you do get the newsletter, I am publishing the first three chapters of Unit 999 there. If you don't get the newsletter just drop be a line and tell me you want it. I forgot to answer your second question about Korea. I think Korea is a hard place to write about. I tried a couple of Korean plots before and they just don't seem to work for me. For the moment, my theater of operations remains the Middle East.

Dear Mr. Debono, I was just wondering if I can find your books at Borders or Barnes and Noble or is it just Amazon. Thanks, Sean Conlon

The easiest way to get them is to order them off the website:

http://www.DouglasDeBono.com/books.htm.

Or you can order them from your favorite bookstore. Just remember there is a space in my last name “De Bono”.

Best...
